I’m pretty sure everyone has experienced a period of waiting; a time in life where something hangs in the air and you feel the desperation for it to fall… right in place. You wait day and night to hear about that one opportunity or response in order to move ahead with your life. Who hasn’t been there?

Maybe you’re in the midst of this waiting right now. If you’re anything like me, you feel a little lost and unsure of what to do. In my experience, I pray for guidance and I ask God to do His will… but what else can I do?

I decided to search for some biblical answers. I knew I needed to trust, and I did, but what else was there to know?

  • God is always good. You can trust Him because of who He is.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34:8

  • We should thank Him because of His goodness and because he has a plan for us.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. Psalm 107:1

“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. ” Jeremiah 29:11-12

  • You can wait on God because He will sustain you. He will carry you through hardships and provide for you.

But they who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up on wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

  •  We can be joyful in the waiting.

For you shall go out in joy and be lead forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12

I don’t believe that “waiting on God” means sitting back and doing nothing. We can actively show our trust by seeking out opportunities and talking to God about them. Pray. Spend time asking Him what His plan is. Seek Him and draw close to Him and ask Him to align your desires with His plan. Times of waiting can be difficult, especially when we believe that we need answers now, but we must hold on to the promises of the bible and trust that He will make the next steps known in His timing.
