4 years ago today, a sweet and nervous John showed up at my door to take me on our first date. We ate at Niffer’s (an Auburn classic), watched a movie (Gravity, I think), and enjoyed getting to know each other better. We had met at the Auburn BCM Beach Retreat after my first week of school at Auburn and soon found out that he was also my TA for a class I was taking. We often walked and rode to class together, where we had to pretend not to know each other well. Because of John being my TA, we weren’t allowed to date that semester (which, I found out later, was hard for John to do). A few weeks later, he cooked me dinner and we made our relationship official.
The last four years brought us many trials, several months apart, loss of family members, weight gain and loss, academic challenges, and stressful jobs. But thankfully, it also brought happy tears, successes in school and work, incredible trips, joyful times with family and friends, Auburn wins, and a beautiful 5 months of marriage. God has been in it all and is good through it all. We are immensely thankful for how He has brought us through every painful season and how He continues to teach us every day.
